Structure #8 grand opening

We are pleased to announce that Structure #8, located in South University Village, will officially open on July 29, 2008. While we do anticipate that some additional work will be needed over the next few weeks, the structure is ready for your use.

Structure #8 is designed to accommodate assigned parking, OneCard Debit Parking, as well as hourly guest and visitor parking. Those assigned to structure #8 will be required to use either their OneCard or an AVI (Automatic Vehicle Identification) tag to enter and exit the lot. AVI Tags are available for individuals assigned to the facility with an additional $25.00 deposit which is refundable when you cancel your parking. OneCard debit parking charges are the current WSU regular parking fees of $2.25 per entry.

The OneCard assigned, debit and AVI systems employ an anti-pass-back system that requires the use of a card to be swiped at both the entrance and exit and in sequence, in then out. Failure to access the facility in sequence will disrupt proper operation of the OneCard and subject drivers to payment of the maximum daily rate or more to exit. If the OneCard reader is offline, you will still need the swipe your card when you enter and exit the structure.

Structure #8 will operate 24 hours 7 days a week. Initially guest and visitor fees will be $1.00 for the first 20 minutes or fraction thereof and $1.00 each additional 20 minutes or fraction thereof. The maximum daily rate will be $10.00. There is a special nighttime fee of $5.00. To qualify for this fee you must enter after 5PM and exit by 3AM. Saturdays and Sundays have a $5.00 daily maximum fee.

All guests and visitors will be directed to pay at one of the two pay-on-foot stations located in the structure. Guests/visitors will enter their ticket and cash into the machine, once the fee has been met, the machine will give back the ticket and allow 15 minutes for the individual to depart the structure. If you do not depart within the allotted time, the system will note that there are additional fees to pay and send drivers back to the pay-on-foot station to make payment.

Validation programs are available for any department/retailer that would like to pay for their guests and visitors entirely or at a reduced cost. Each validation program will be set up individually. Departments/retailers can purchase a departmental/retailer encoder to validate guest/visitor tickets. The Parking Department will then bill the department/retailer on a monthly basis for its use. Please contact the Parking office at 577-3704 for further details regarding the validation program.

The structure will be staffed 24/7 to help monitor the pay-on-foot stations and patrol the facility. This structure does have new high technology audio and surveillance equipment throughout the facility.

Lot #33 closed for repairs

Please be advised that beginning Monday, July 28, 2008,lot #33 will no longer be accessible for assigned parking. Major repairs and improvements are needed at lot #33 to accommodate your parking needs. We hope to have the work substantially completed and the lot reopened for our patrons by mid-September.

For individuals currently assigned to lot 33, you will be reassigned to the staff side of parking Structure #1 located at the northwest corner of Cass and Palmer

For residents who park overnight in Lot 33, you will be temporarily reassigned to Lot 23 located on Palmer and Woodward just east of the A/AB Building. Please remember your hanging tags must be displayed at all times to prevent your vehicle from being ticketed and/or towed.

After completion, the new lot will require all individuals to swipe into and out of the lot at all times. After construction exiting will not be permitted unless your card was recorded as entering the lot prior to swiping out.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during construction andapologize in advance for any inconvenience.

Shuttle Bus Summer Schedule

Effective May 27, the shuttle bus will transition to the summer schedule. There will be one shuttle bus traveling the main campus and medical school routes at half-hour intervals from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday except Wayne State University holidays.

Summer shuttle hours are effective through August 29. To board the shuttle, you must show the shuttle driver your WSU OneCard.
